Kennedy's Peace Efforts
Moscow Domestic Service in Russian 0100 GMT 23 November 1963--L
(Text) John Kennedy occupied the post of president from 20
January 1961. The late President of the United States, speaking at American
University in Washington last summer, pointed out that all countries were
mutually deeply interested in a just and genuine peace and in stopping the
armaments race. He insisted on U,S. Senate ratification of the Moscow treaty
suspending nuclear tests in the three spheres. Kennedy's steps in the direction
of clearing the international situation met with sharp opposition from the
American madmen.
The terrorist act against Kennedy was committed during his
tour of the country to make political speeches connected with the campaign,
which has in fact started already, for the presidential election in November
next year.
The coffin containing the remains of the late President
Kennedy has been brought by air from Dallas to Washington. As the speaker of the
House of Representatives of the American Congress, McCormack, announced, the
President's coffin will be placed in the White House where Americans can file
past. National mourning has been announced in the United States in connection
with the assassination of President Kennedy.
