I believe that Channel #1 was 37,180 Kc (37.180 Mc) (pre Mhz for the sake of those purists among us. ), and Channel #2 was 45,260. I may be wrong and those were the DCSO frequencies, but whatever ... they were FM and most of the units were Motorola Model T-51-GGV's. That is from memory so don't yell if I'm wrong by a few 100 Hz or so . The radio call was KKB-364 (I'll never forget that!). And yes, capture effect always played a major roll. Sometimes when the F1 & F2 ionospheric layers combined and the combination was low, there was short skip and other cities would come (sneaking) through. I DO NOT remember that was any problem on the fateful weekend in '63. Short skip only happened a couple times a year (and usually in the early evening and early morning hours). Channel 1 was duplexed and Channel 2 was simplex. They were NOT complimentary to each other. Channel 1 was the city-wide dispatch (and repeater) frequency and eminated from a 250 watt repeater base with an antenna on a 100 foot tower at Fair Park and the mobile units responded through 4 geographic repeaters. Channel 2 was the "detectives, supervisors & command channel" and was simplex only. Handi-talkies were not in use in those days. (We did have a few "draggie-talkies" but they never worked worth a hoot anyway). I do not believe any of those monsters were in use during the events. BTW, I believe that the open mike event took place during the trip with the convoy from Parkland to Love Field after 2:08PM, and eminated from a solo motorcycle. All of those transmissions problems were on Channel 2. The recordings were NOT on dictaphone belts!!! Those were somebody's re-recording of the file tapes. The recordings were "real-time" on «" slow speed continious reels and those recorders were in the dispatch area on the 3rd floor of the Police & Courts Building. Those tapes monitored "both sides" of the duplex transmissions on Channel 1. I believe that the recorder for Channel 2 was on receiver that had a seperate antenna on the tall tower at Fair Park, so that it could record the simplex transmissions on Channel 2. The radio service facilities were also at the transmitter site at Fair Park. Fair Park was/is the name of the Texas State Fair Grounds.
