O'BRIEN is currently employed as Commissioner of the National Basketball Association. His business phone is (212) 826-7000. The Committee interviewed Mr. O'Brien because of his role as Presidential aide [sic] to President Kennedy and because of his presence in the motorcade, at Parkland Hospital, and at Bethesda Naval Hospital. At the time of the assassination, Mr. O'Brien's official title was Special Assistant for Congressional Relations. Consequently, his primary responsibility was maintaining contact with the Congressmen. O'BRIEN Stated [sic] that his specific concern on the Texas trip was maintaining close contact to Congressman YARBOROUGH and Governor CONNALLY. O'BRIEN said that he did not travel to Miami with the President on November 17, 1963, and knew of no threats to the President concerning that trip. After the assassination and the departure from Dallas, O'BRIEN stated that he traveled in Air Force One and then proceeded by car directly to the BETHESDA NAVAL HOSPITAL. Upon arriving, he went to the Tower Suite on the 17th floor along with David POWERS, Ken O'DONNELL, and other members of the Kennedy Interviewer: /s/ Jim Kelly /s/ Mark Flanagan Name: Purdy/Kelly/Flanagan Date Transcribed: January 25, 1978 [end of page one] Lawrence F. O'BRIEN was also uncertain as to whether Clint HILL (Secret Service) was there. Regarding the events at PARKLAND MEMORIAL HOSPITAL in Dallas, O'BRIEN mentioned that the Kennedy people had some problems removing the body from Dallas jurisdiction. After one of the Parkland doctors pronounced President Kennedy dead, Jackie KENNEDY entered the trauma room to view the body. O'BRIEN also mentioned that RFK opened the coffin and viewed the body in the East Room of the White House. In regard to the controversy surrounding the missing organs and tissues, Mr. O'BRIEN did not have any information. Although not sure, he did not believe he attended the reinterment of JFK's body at Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. O'BRIEN mentioned that is the Kennedy family did obtain custody of the missing materials that RFK would have taken charge and that if he shared any information on this issue, that Kenneth O'DONNELL would have been a logical choice.
