30 April Yuanmingyuan Park
On April 30th, Luan Yurong and I visited Yuanmingyuan Park, adjacent to the Tsinghua campus. It was a former summer palace that was ransacked and burned by French and English soldiers in the 19th century. The Chinese government has preserved nearly everything in the state that the armies left it. Of course, that was in a different time, with different standards of conduct, but it is still very sad to see the ruins of such a beautiful place.
