Navy Pier 1

The conference on medical physics was held in the big conference center at the end of Chicago's Navy Pier, which as the name suggests was formerly the property of the U.S. Navy and later turned over to the City of Chicago. It now is a wonderful resource for eating, drinking, amusing oneself, and attending conferences. the first two series of pictures show various view of the pier.

Basically, the south side of the pier is for boats and walking, and the north side is for buildings. Here is a typical view along the south side looking westward toward the skyline. Chicago is a wonderful city to visit, and we had a great time for those brief couple of days. As you can see, the weather was spectacular.

This view is from the near the end of the pier. The city has made the pier a people-friendly place, with plenty of benches to relax on. Here are some floks doing exactly that.

This is the big outside restaurant, the Navy Pier Beer Garden.

Little kids and big ones alike enjoy the Navy Pier.

This is at the end of the pier, looking to the northwest. Li Mei is reading a description of the pier and the sights around it.

A little farther around the end of the pier, looking to the south along the lake (Lake Michigan, for those of you who aren't so familiar with Chicago).

This is the north side of the pier. The guy in the T-shirt is fishing for his lunch.

The midday crowd near the amusement section of the pier. Children of all ages were present in abundance.
