Shidu (The Juma River Valley)
II: More scenes along the valley

The gorgeous gorge. Note the bathers near the left bank. The geological strata are clearly visible in the steep walls.

The mountains in backlight.

Two-camera Kelly in the Wild West of Shidu. (She used separate cameras for slides and prints.)

A view along the new road.

A wonderful place to be.

Another view along the road.

A little footbridge across to an island in the middle of the river.

At certain places along the river, there were groups of fish ponds. Here are two ponds.

A beautiful crack in the side of the valley.

A beautiful little waterfall between two steep hills. The lack of soil prevents the water from being absorbed and held back.

It seemed to us that every Chinese person loved watermelons, which were often served as dessert at banquets. Until Shidu, however, we did not realize that their donkeys loved them, too. This donkey dutifully ate all the red part and left the rinds. If you look carefully, you can see the seeds that the donkey spit out. Hmmm.....not so much difference between donkeys and people, after all.
