Hong Kong City

We have few pictures of Hong King city proper because we, or at least I, didn't get downtown very much. These seven pictures were taken as we returned from our trip to Cheung Chau.

Here is a view of Victoria Harbour and the skyline on the Kowloon side. Some of our fondest memories of this place are from a late summer's evening. If you ever get to Hong Kong, be sure to visit the waterfront at night. The combination of bright lights outlining the buildings, gentle breezes, and the low, steady sound of boat engines will relax you in a way that you will remember forever.

Here is one of the Hong Kong-Kowloon ferry boats. So much land has been filled in on both sides of the harbor that the ride from one side to the other seems shorter than a decade ago.

Here is the dock area where we left the ferry from Cheung Chau. It is a major terminus for bus transportation, too.

Some of the spectacular buildings on the Kowloon side of the harbor.

A view of the streets around these buildings.

We had to go hunting for a gift for Kelly to bring home. That involved climbing the steep hills along the narrow streets, which was a lot of fun.

A typical view of a business area along a narrow street. Some people think that this riot of signs hanging everywhere is aimed at tourists, but in fact it is the usual Chinese way.
