Thursday, 1 January 2004, Park 1—Kite 1

The next afternoon the same group of us visited a waterfront park downtown. That led to the inevitable kite-flying, and that to... Well, you'll see the sad story below.

Here we are buying a kite. The generous Johnnie is paying, as usual.

The assembled kite.

It went up easily. Here is Jinjin taking her turn.

Everybody wants to get in on the act. Who is really holding the kite, Jinjin or Wenyin?

Our kite is the uppermost one. There were quite a few others, too.

After a few minutes it became obvious that the basic kite didn't have enough string or an easy way to let out the string. So we got more string and a spool from this guy. It was a little like going fishing, but up in the air. Later it became real fishing (reel fishing?). But I am getting ahead of my story.

The guy who sells it to you knows best.

But it takes a woman's touch, in this case to thread and knot the new string. Thank you, Sukie!

Up we go again. Wenyin is amazed by Jinjin's skill in getting the kite up in the air so fast. We all envied her ability.  :-)
