(Text) Lyndon Johnson was born on 27 August 1908, in the state of Texas. He received his education in a teacher's college and at law school. From 1930-1932 he was a teacher, but then became the secretary of Congressman R. Kleberg and Texas official of the National Youth Administration. In 1937 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Democrat. He became in 1949 a senator from the state of Texas, and in 1953 the leader of the Democrats in the Senate. In 1960 Lyndon Johnson was elected U.S. Vice President.
