Ponomarev on Dallas Situation

(Text) New York--Reactionary forces in Dallas continue to
terrorize the town. Unknown persons are telephoning and threatening to blow up
the local newspaper building and the Catholic church, and to mob Federal Judge
Hughes, who swore in Lyndon Johnson. The aircraft of astronaut Glenn, who set
off for Washington, was delayed in Dallas for almost an hour. A search was made
for a bomb which was also reported by telephone, by persons unknown.
At least 100 times in the last 12 hours, the scene of the
killing of Oswald by nightclub owner Rubinstein, whom the town police familiarly
call Ruby, has been shown on television screens. A New York TIMES reporter
writes: Many Americans are asking themselves today: "Did Oswald really do all
this alone, or did he have an accomplice who shot Oswald to keep him quiet?" The
papers give the most detailed descriptions of the new criminal, but as yet not
one paper not the federal authorities nor the Dallas police have replied to the
main question--how was he able to get through the police and, furthermore,
armed?
Upon first questioning, the nightclub owner himself refuses
to talk about this. Perhaps he has never been asked about it, Yesterday Ruby was
visited by his sister at the police station. Ruby calmly persuaded her not to
worry about him. "My health is good," UPI quotes him as saying: "The FBI people
and police are treating me well. I have friends."
The friends, REUTERS reports from Dallas, are trying to get
Ruby released on bail. They told the REUTERS correspondent that, regarding bail,
"The sky is the limit." In other words, his protectors will spend any amount of
money for his release.
