    (Excerpt) The Soviet people are very distressed. The news was so unexpected and tragic that the public was shocked. People could not believe it. All talk in Moscow streets, in the subway, buses, and at taxi stands last evening revolved around the assassination. People had tears in their eyes. They were indignant. The late John Kennedy is well known here. Soviet people link his name with the improvement in relations between our two countries. They appreciated his efforts to relax world tension and get some of the international problems adjusted.
