Velichanskiy on Shooting
Moscow TASS International Service in English 2102 GMT 24 November 1963--L
(Excerpts) New York--TASS correspondent Velichanskiy reports:
The murderers of President John Kennedy are trying to
cover up their traces. Lee Harvey Oswald, who was charged with murdering the
President, has been just killed. All America was able to watch this new crime on
the television screen. Oswald was to be taken in an armored car to the county
prison and television correspondents with their equipment were admitted to the
corridor to televise Oswald's transfer to the car. The police do not explain how
Ruby found his way to this closely guarded corridor.
Police give no answer to other fully justified questions,
either. For instance, it was announced that a photograph showing Oswald with the
rifle with which he allegedly shot the president and with the revolver with
which he allegedly killed the policeman was found in his wife's possession. But
why should a man planning to kill the head of the state have his photograph
taken with the weapons of his future crime and then give this photograph to his
wife?
Dallas police yesterday announced that they had enough
evidence to electrocute Oswald, referring to some "important testimony"
allegedly given by Oswald's wife against her husband. But instead of enabling
journalists to meet the woman who, if the police are to be believed, could shed
light on the assassination of the U.S. president, the FBI has reportedly
completely isolated her and Oswald's mother and actually forced them to keep
silence. Now the only person who was accused of killing President Kennedy, a man
who till the very end denied his implication in this assassination, has also
been silenced forever.
