Modified Exercise 18-1: Large-scale structure of sentences

      Using the procedure described in Chapter 18, express the structure of the verb phrases (predicates) in each of the ten sentences below in terms of the large-scale functional units verb (V), object (OD or OI), adverb (A), and complement (CS or CO). Be aware that some sentences may have more than one verb phrase. Then summarize the abbreviated structure of each independent clause (e.g., SVOA). You may do the same for the entire sentence if you consider it to be easier.
