Then the show began. It lasted for about two hours, and was wonderful. I'm not going to try to comment on the individual scenes because I don't know them well enough. Let it just be said that the opera was a classical Chinese story about a woman who eludes some captors and goes on to become rich and powerful. She has two children, and eventually loses her daughter.
