The Grounds

These are pictures of the grounds that surround the house.

The double driveway is original, but now paved. The shrubbery inside has been added. In the old days, we were always driving tractors and trucks over this center grass, and so needed to keep it open.

That green thing just to the left of my car is the nose of a John Deere tractor that Steve has pout on display. Being an Oliver fan, I'm digging down deep in my heart to try to forgive him.  :-)

Imagine the former barn and barnyard to the left of the hoghouse.

The hoghouse, which the Persas now call "The Red Barn." This is the place where I use to go and bond with Grandpa's hogs. Everybody laughs at me when I tell them that, but I don't care. The cement slab to the right was the base of an aluminum corncrib.

The former hog lot.

This part of the grounds used to be an orchard. It was inside the "chicken park," the area where the chickens could roam.

Janie enjoyed the green grass. In China, people are kept off the green grass of public spaces, so they always like to walk in it when they come here.

Steve Persa and his weekly lawn mowing. He wheels that thing around as though he were still on I-294 in Chicago.

If I have my bearings correct, this area used to be the south side of the barn and part of the barnyard.

Janie is ready for some serious field work with the tractor.
