We had a quick stop at Rob's home in Fairport, NY.

Here is the Spencer coat of arms. You can see that the name goes back to at least the 14th century, and comes from "dispensing," or being a butler. And yes, he is related (distantly) to Lady Diana Spencer of England, the late Princess of Wales.
