vfrags, ft s-1

    Values of vfrags are disallowed if they are <0 or >1100 ft s-1. A mixed group at the upper right contained values violating both criteria. It is shown in boldface. Small groups of values in the lower left and upper right were disallowed by tlurch, and are also boldfaced (with the right group contained within the group disallowed by vfrags). The joint pattern of masking is what is applied to the three last variables considered here. The overall range of vfrags was -35,340–2710 ft s-1. This was reduced to 240–940 ft s-1 by the combined constraints.

tlurch, ms

    Values of tlurch were allowed only if they were >0 or <25 ms. These constraints eliminated two values at the lower left of the table and six at the upper right. Both groups are shown in boldface. The larger group at the upper right eliminated by constraints on vfrags is also shown in boldface, and includes the group eliminated by tlurch.. The overall range of tlurch was -6 to 26 ms. It was reduced to 6–24 ms by the joint constraints.

    The speed of the rearward lurch ranged from -1.4 to +1.4 ft s-1 (not including a diagonal zone of ill-defined values), which was larger than on the previous page. When masked by the constraints of vfrags and tlurch, the range of acceptable speeds was reduced to 0.8–1.4 ft s-1, all rearward. This included the observed lurch of -0.8 ft s-1.

    The velocity of the forward snap ranges from 3.2 to 7.1 ft s-1 overall. The constraints from vfrags and tlurch reduce the range to 4.06.6 ft s-1, very similar to the previous page (mhead = 6 lb) and again consistent with the observed vsnap > 3.3 ft s-1.
